30 year old vines have contributed the majority of fruit to this single vineyard wine which includes 5 separate Pinot Noir clones. Grapes handpicked March 4. Average Baumé 12.8 degrees, pH 3.57, titratable acid 7.6 g/L.
After 3 days of cold maceration, whole berries and bunches were fermented to dryness in open fermenters. Matured in new and used French oak barriques for 16 months before bottling on 7th August 2014. Unfined and unfiltered.
Initially shy, the wine transforms with swirling and breathing in the glass to reveal a classical Pinot with strawberry and cherry fruit, spice, earthy, smoky, gamey and sappy characters. Well-structured with fine but firm tannins, great length and balanced natural acidity, this wine should mature and improve over at least 7 to 10 years.
